LATEST NEWS

If you weren’t at 420 festival you missed out my friend. The crowd was packed! Matt shared the stage with some well known legends (including Yoji, Marcel Woods, Bad Boy Bill, Klaas, and many more.). The party was so crazy that there were even picketers protesting outside for it to be shut down. If you missed it, check out the Scenes from the 420 festival to catch a glimpse of what you missed. The column is also going through some minor changes. Nocturnal Radio is currently trying to get the most exclusive information for its listeners. For some of the Reviews we will be having a few words directly from the Producer, telling you a little personal information for the track. This week DJ Sudha, Hibernate, Lokitas, & Quivver provide us with some special commentary. This week we have a special guest mix from Canadian House DJ Mark Mendes. Enjoy! - KJ

NOCTURNAL 193 REVIEWS

Glenn Morrison pres. Musetta - Nicotine (Glenn Morrison remix) [Armada]
Starting off this set we have a guy that is one of my favorite producers. Glenn Morrison. (In my opinion the real genius behind his previous duo with deadmau5.) From grainy screeching acid lines to lush ethereal progressive, this jack of all trades does it all and well. Notice the harmonizing of the vocals and the flute. “Nicotine” is like Jethro Tull in the electronic dance era.

Jimmy Van M - My Eyes (2 am JVM & Marc Mitchell mix) [Audio Logic]
Jimmy van M starts off the set with “My Eyes”; the 2AM JVM & Marc Mitchell mix. Sexy, mysterious, and deep, this record features the haunting vocals of New York artist Steve T. and additional production by scene legend Marc Mitchell. A little background on Jimmy: as a DJ; he is one of the worlds finest in terms of remarkable mixing skills and superb at building a set. This release is actually released in three parts.  My eyes: part 1, 2, & 3. Go ahead and check out all the parts, they each have a little something new to bring to the table.

Quivver - Is There Anybody There (original mix) [Ministry Of Sound Germany]
There’s  a new single actually, which is not part of the album, which I've just finished called "Is There Anybody Out There". So that will be the next single. After the album, and I'm working on another album of songs that I've been doing for years. I'm also working on music for film The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. It's a remake of a 70s film, it's about a guy who hijacks a New York subway train and it stars John Travolta, Denzel Washington and James Gandolfini. - John Graham (Quivver)

Lokitas - Indifference (Secondskin remix) [Pitch Music]

Hi. We are the project from Moscow consisting of two persons. Our title has appeared as a result of Loki and Kit pseudonyms combination. Certainly, we like how Luke Fair works, but the name of the project is not concerned with his unconditionally perfect track. We listen, mix, compose and collect music. Its direction is hard to describe, that's a complex, a mix of various house music styles, which is interesting to us, not simple and filled with saturated, harmonious and beautiful sound. We are doing our best while selecting most suitable works in our compilations for creating correct mood. The song featured on Matt’s set today is “Indifference”; the seconskin remix. - Lokitas

Hibernate - Motion (original mix) [System]
My name is Joey Borg, and I am the only member of Hibernate. I do all the production, writing, playing and most of the vocals. I prefer working alone, this way I have total creative control over the final product, however I enjoy working with other lead vocalists to switch things up. I don't sound exactly like anyone though, which is also a VERY good thing. My biggest criticism of the electronic scene these days is too many people are doing the same thing, with only some minor innovations. There is way too much genre prejudice, and the labels fortify this nasty element. It causes the masses to begin thinking the same way, which is unfortunate. I mean how many names do we really need for genres? It’s like international politics: too many labels cause too many problems. Now I'm doing my part to change these things. – Joey Borg (Hibernate)

Sudha ft. Zoe Johnston - Leche (Thomas Schwartz vocal mix) [Bish Bash]
Woo hoo! All's hotting up here. Yes yes. 'Leche', the second single from my album 'Anti-freeze', is now out! With incredible vocals by the amazing Zoe Johnston (Faithless, Bent), who also happens to be my dear friend, the track is currently setting dance floors alight. With mixes by Way Out West and Thomas Schwartz the response has been bananas. So...thanks for all your support and may it continue... Lastly, don't forget to check my new website www.bishbashrecords.com - Sudha

Elsa Hill - Stay In My Dream (Lost Stories remix) [Black Hole]

The never-ending addiction with trance music began when Elsa Hill set her hands on a pair of turntables. Trance music was unknown to her at that time, but she was immediately captivated as the music let her escape into another world. While in China, she exhibited outstanding skills at DJ’ing and singing live while visiting six cities throughout the nation. With memorable experiences behind her, Elsa is very enthusiastic about future performances to come. Though only in the industry for three years, Elsa is continuing to pursue her passion through her productions that feature her very own vocals as well as collaborations with producers from all over the world. The upcoming years look very promising and Elsa can't wait to share her future work with everyone!  - by Alan “Santorini” Sanchez

Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone (deadmau5 remix) [Columbia]
I remember catching a Deadmau5 live show; when people were still calling him dead mau five; back before the makeshift Mickey mouse shaped head; before the bajillion records and awards, when Deadmau5 was still producing with Glenn Morrison: He was on stage trying to do a live mashup of some progressive house track and the Christmas classic“Walking in a Winter Wonderland”. Needless to say it didn’t impress me much. But with his massiveamounts of consistent quality production and remixes, he has risen up in the ranks in my book and the people’s eyes as well. Deadmau5 is getting a lot of promotion since his Grammy nomination. His latest rub is of fellow chart topper Calvin Harris’s “I’m Not Alone.” Prime time for South by Southwest (SXSW) and Miami’s Winter Music Conference action.
Sylvia Tosun & Loverush UK! - 5 Reasons (Donni Hotwheel alternative vocal mix) [Sea To Sun]
From Sea To Sun Recordings and Loverush Digital, "5 Reasons”  is a beautifully understated, yet euphoric production; house music with a progressive edge. Sylvia Tosun demonstrates her lyrical ability using an ancient incantation designed to bring down the elements, to represent how love and life are always reincarnated. The lyrics dance around the soaring production to create an unforgettable track.

Sunset & Sunrise - Sunrise With Love (Arma Nova vs. Paul Ursin & Benny Benew remix) [Absolutely]
A track fresh from the WMC 2009 is Arma Nova vs. Paul Ursin & Benny Benew’s remix of “Sunrise With Love” by Sunset & Sunrise. I love the chilling vocals that creep into the track. It’s so subtle; it's easy to miss if you are focused on the main synths. Hearing the original I can’t place what makes this remix different from the original. But regardless, it’s a great track perfect for setting the mood for an outdoor party on the beach.
