NOCTURNAL 195 REVIEWS

Schlock! - You Can't Make A Sound (hydrusxualised by HydrusX) [Mode2]
Gianluca "Schlock!" Licciardi is a self-taught Italian 'cheap electronic' music composer, producer, remixer, sound artist and performer who firmly believes in the possibilities of visual sound. Since 2007 he's working  with Nonantola Film Festival, for which he's made available several tracks to be used by the filmmakers involved; also with Murgia Film Festival (2006 and 2007) for which he supervised and edited some after-hour events (performances, live shows and dj-sets).  He also published three concept albums, available for free download. He is currently working on STAR WHORES®, a non-profit and - hopefully - community-built label dedicated to providing high quality, non-commercial, freely distributable dance, house and electro-pop, a pop sideproject called "lucamörde", a sonic translation of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Fischerspooner - The Best Revenge (Alex Gopher Retaliation remix) [Kitsune]
Fischerspooner - Dance En France (D.I.M. remix) [Kitsune]

Fischerspooner is an art pop performance project created and helmed by Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner that makes music, dance, fashion, film and photography. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider pop shows bursting with stage effects presented in both art galleries and traditional concert halls. Their full-length albums of music include 1, a punked-up digital party record trussed with conceptual lyrics; and Odyssey, a rich emotional fantasia with a deep, expansive sound. Fischerspooner’s third album Entertainment, a sophisticated pop epic bubbling with hooks, releases in May, 2009. The first tease of what was yet to come arrived in 2008 with two singles released on Paris-based cult label Kitsuné. “The Best Revenge” a driving, synth-layered pop number, was featured on Kitsuné’s Maison 5 compilation, and “Danse en France,” a slung-back, slinky dance track had a hit remix by D.I.M. A commission by choreographer Stephen Petronio resulted in an 18-minute adaptation of “Danse en France” used as the score of their piece “Beauty and the Brut,” garnering notice in the New York Times after its world premiere at the Joyce Theater in May.

Autokratz - Stay The Same (Alex Gopher remix)
the London based electronic duo, inspired by Daft Punk, Kraftwerk and Underworld, always pride themselves on creating something distinctly unique and have been responsible for some of the freshest and most exciting records of recent months. Along with their hectic summer tour schedule which leads them from Glastonbury to Japan, will definitely ensure that this summer autoKratz will secure a major place in the realm of electronic music.

Planet Funk - Lemonade (Benny Benassi remix) [Airplane]
Nocturnal Radio's Record of the Week

Having seen many of Benny Benassi’s live shows, I can assure you that he is a master at remixing. Many people know him simply for that one “push me.. satisfaction” record, but what has impressed me the most is his ability to take rock-esque vocals and turn them into something truly unique. Afterall, he was part of Benassi Bros which were responsible for some massive vocal tracks. What stood out to me at his live show was his ability to turn a popular Red Hot Chili Peppers song and completely transforms the vocals into a tech house track that blew the roof off the club. Here we see Benny at it again this time using his talents on Planet Funk’s “Lemonade”.

Costello - Girls Speak Louder (Donique remix) [Plasmapool]
Costello delivers us Girls Loud Speaker. 3 mixes of this seriously wonky tracks to check out here. Autoslide's remix sticks out above the rest full of energy and electro vibes. "Plasmapool is one of those labels that doesn't like to be kown for just one style of music and they have proved this over the past 12 Months with some stunning electro, tech and breaks tracks doing the rounds! This falls into the latter catagory as FredzeFreds lays down this party fuelled breaks romp!" (Track It Down)

Cazals - Poor Innocent Boys (Shinichi Osawa remix) [Kitsune]
Over the course of Shinichi Osawa’s (aka Mondo Grosso) career, he has worked in genres from Acid Jazz to House, with strong influences of underground club music, though his recent work has been in the genre of electro house. Osawa was originally the leader and bassist for the popular Japanese musical group Mondo Grosso, which formed in Kyoto in 1991 on the For Life Records label. However, in 1995, the group was disbanded, and Osawa worked more on his own, collaborating with many artists such as Monday Michiru, Amel Larrieux, UA, Chara, Dragon Ash and even Ayumi Hamasaki. In the midst of his collaborative work in 1997, he became a solo producer, releasing the R&B infused acid jazz and house album Closer.

Cevin Fisher - The Freaks Come Out (Eric Entrena remix) [Subversive]
Barcelona’s Eric Entrena’s music is described in 3  philosophie:  elegance, quality and taking care of the dancefloor. His non-stop travelling has taught him to be a versatile house dj. Eric Entrena has been nominated as Best house DJ of the year on 2004 and 2007 by the Spanish Deejay Magazine. Cevin Fisher has a sound that both chronicles and creates the history of House music from a New Yorker's perspective, Cevin Fisher is a favorite among Garage followers worldwide. This New Jersey native's trendy style showcases a deft interplay between hard-hitting House beats and compelling vocals. A pupil of Arthur Baker, a Junior Vasquez admirer and an avid remixer, Fisher first began turning heads en masse with his hit single "The Freaks Come Out."
