Serge Devant Artist Profile

Real Name: Serge Devant
Profile:

Growing up in St. Petersburg, in the old Soviet Union, serge always had music infused into his daily life. His parents were deeply routed in the art community and enrolled serge in music education at a young age. Before coming to America, serge was classically trained in the violin for two years and in the piano for 8 years at the prestigious Music School of St. Petersburg. The dedication, hard work and commitment to higher standards serge learned while studying classical music in Russia that he brings to his Electronic and Dance productions here in the U.S. In this way, he holds a very significant advantage over other producers. He approaches his music as he would a classical piece. He understands the power that well-orchestrated music has on human emotion and this shows in his high energy, suspenseful style of electronica.

Way Out West - Only Love (Jerome Isma-Ae vocal remix) [Hope Recordings]
True artists don't follow trends, they reinterpret them to fit their vision - staying true to who they are yet staying current with the modern groove. With club anthems like "Mindcircus," "Ajare," and "The Gift," Way Out West, the duo of Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff have definitely had their effect on the cannon of progressive house music. While many producers/artists are making what sound like 80s records with a minor update, WOW chooses to incorporate 80s sounding keyboards while retaining their sound. While we love Omi and hope that she has a few tracks on their forthcoming CD We Love Machine, we also appreciate quality male vocalists on club tracks such as the Apollo approved Jonathan Mendelsohn who sings "Only Love." - DJ Ron Slomowicz

Tiga - Beep Beep Beep (It's A Fine Line remix) [Wall Of Sound]
Based in Montreal, Tiga is a DJ/producer who has effectively worked the underground and the mainstream with his wry brand of campy electro and stark techno. Born in Montreal, Canada, Tiga's first exposure to his future came from touring the Goa area of India with his DJ father throughout the '80s. Following in his father's footsteps, Tiga began spinning in Montreal's cooler clubs in the early '90s, bringing the acid house sound to Canada. Seeing as how there weren't any events like the Goa parties he had attended, the DJ made his own and later was credited with throwing Canada's first proper rave. The events continued as Tiga opened one of the earliest techno-only record stores, DNA, and he also started the Turbo label with fellow DJ Mark Dillon. The DJ was comfortable playing and releasing other people's music and didn't seriously concentrate on creating his own tunes until the 2000s. After spinning Miss Kittin & the Hacker's version of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" at a club, Tiga had the idea to record some kind of cover version with Finnish DJ and friend Jori Hulkkonen. Interviews, remixes, and touring kept the DJ busy until he helmed an edition of K7's successful mix CD series DJ Kicks. In the DJ Kicks tradition, he recorded one new track, "Man Hrdina," for the album, which the label released as a single. Most DJs chose the single's B-side, an electro version of Nelly's "Hot in Herre," and both the single and the mix CD were re-released to feature the surprise smash hit. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

King Roc - Beautiful But Weird (Sasse remix) [Process Recordings]
Here's the story: King Roc wrote dance music, once. He's half of the wildly successful techno / deep house duo Two Armadillos with Giles Smith of UK club pioneers Secretsundaze. He DJs Brazil, China, Australia, a couple of times each year each as well as regularly playing the big European and UK clubs. He lives in Brazil and Berlin but really he's a nicely-mannered gent from southwest London. But he doesn't like to talk much, and two years back he was fed up to the back teeth of 4/4 for the dancefloor. So when he met Australian artist Seb Godfrey of Drunkpark, they hatched a plan together. A concept album that won't explain itself. (But it started with some ideas about dreams, intuition, happenstance and coincidence.) No talking. Big secret theories. A concept album. And then: for the final CD, each track had to be ripped apart and thrown back together for its reappearance on the CD - with trip-hop transformed into a beautiful vocal number, or techno into lush, beatless cinematics ...

Yura Popov & Ange - Feel The Lie (Kris B vocal remix) [Carica]
Yura began his career in the beginning of 1998 in his native city Rostov-on-Don. It's all began occasionally due to a simple music composing software. It was his first attempt to produce his own tracks, and nobody expected him to become professional in this field. A year later his first tracks were included in local compilations. He and his co producer titled his project “Impulse” at the young age of 18. Then after a year of constant gigs their music transformed into break beat with hip hop lyrics. Yura started to feel that this wasn’t challenging as he’d like it to be, so eventually it lead to the breakup of Impulse. He says that as a musician he didn’t agree with the tracks which were made so primitively, “I just wanted to write something new and interesting, following the club format. I tried to make some tracks with my own vocals, but then decided that it was quite not what I want. I found that I didn’t want to pay attention on voice parts, because I was interested only in music. I would like to use new synthesizers, plug-ins, effects, and at last I intended to make progressive and techno music.”

Ampkontrol - Heaven's Gates (vocal club mix) [Deeplife Records]
“I've started producing electronic music in 2004, under the artist name "N-Vision". At the end of 2008, after aquiring some experience, I realized it was time for a fresh start with some fresh music, under a fresh artist name, so Ampkontrol was born. Regarding music and other artforms, I believe that God is the only Creator, and we are mere arrangers of what was already created. For example, I didn't create sound waves. I didn't assign what each sound frequency/timbre is going to sound like. I didn't create harmony along with all the beautiful chords and intervals. "Music making" is only possible because music already exists. It's pre-programmed in our minds as a powerful means of expression and communication. Though, the ideas expressed are all dependent upon the artist's free will and musical experience. Some of the electronic music artists that sparked my interest in the "electronica" genre are: Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Jean Michel Jarre.” – ampkontrol
