| Schodt Artist Profile |

| Real Name: | Henrik Schødt |
| Profile: | Progressive.melodic.house. Mix those three keywords together, add a touch of emotion, and you'll have a pretty good taste of the style of Danish musician "Schodt" a.k.a Henrik Schodt. This flavorful blend is manifested through Henrik's ambition to share the music that he pushes to the edge of the genre, delivering original and classic tracks to the progressive scene. Henrik was born and raised in Aalborg, Denmark. He quickly fell in love with electronic music on its rise in the 90's, and started making tracks using various software programs in the late 90's. Finally in 2006 all the hard work payed off - he got his first release under the alias "Riko" with the track "Tokyo", which recieved accolades from top DJs such as Andrew K, DJ Tarkan, Above & Beyond, Airwave, and Jerry Bonham. Following up on that release, Henrik worked on various remix projects under the "Riko"-alias. Five minutes with Schodt
Katie Tiae - Thankyou for sparing some time for the Nocturnal hotseat! We already have something in common! We have Danish running through our veins! What have you been up to this morning!!!
Schodt - Thanks for having me on the show! I've had my obligatory trip to the gym this morning, its my fav. way to start out the day.
Katie Tiae - Whats your favourite Danish food and drink?
Schodt- Oh well we have so many tasty courses in Denmark, so it's really hard to choose. But you can never go wrong with a traditional danish beef, with brown sauce, onions and potatoes. Just make sure you go work out - hard - the day after!
Katie Tiae - What were your parents reactions when you told them you were going to make music when you grow up?
Schodt- I've always been an adventurer, so when my parents learned about my passion for music, they weren't that surprised. - Sometimes I think they know me better than I do.
Katie Tiae - You have only recently transformed into the 'Schodt' alias, this year in fact! What are the reasons behind the change?
Schodt- I wanted a fresh start, since I took a break from producing as "Riko", which was back in 2007. I also wanted a more genuine name, that I could be sure no other musical artist had. So my last name "Schodt" became the answer :)
Katie Tiae - You recently released a remix with Silk Royal Records for Xafilah-Dezza, (Which our listeners can find on Beatport!!!) How's the response been going?
Schodt- Response has been really well on this one, it has been supported by Matt Cerf, Suzy Solar, Dave Cortex etc. And I've been getting a lot of positive response from fans all around, who like the classical progressive approach on this track, which is great, since much prog. house is taking more and more elements from the tech- and electrohouse-genre.
Katie Tiae - What's it feel like to have your tracks supported by people such as Above & Beyond & Airwave?
Schodt- Its awesome. As any other artist, beeing it a musician, actor, painter or whatever, it means a lot when I get support from fans and DJs. - In the end this is what motivates me, and it also tells me that I'm doing the right thing.
Katie Tiae - Looking back into the love of electronic music what year would be one of your favourites, why?
Schodt - 1999 was a great year in my book. It sort of was the year where electronic music was starting to be very defined with the different genres and all. Albums like "Movement in Still Life" from BT and Sasha's track "Xpander" is all time favorites of mine. Sasha recently published a remastered version of Xpander and at the moment its climbing the progressive house charts. Pretty awesome for a track thats 10 years old. It was also the year when I started to write my own music, so in many ways that year means a lot to me.
Katie Tiae - Why do you think there is so much controversy with drug use in todays club scene compared to the late 80's early 90s when people mainly went for the music?
Schodt - nowadays electronic music is reaching a much wider audience than before, so obviously there will be more trouble with drug-use, and a bigger focus on it. But if you look through time, there has always been problems with drugs in various music genres, so in the end I think the important thing is to focus on the drug-problem in a wider perspective, rather than pin pointing it down to one particular group of people or be it music genre.
Katie Tiae - What up & coming releases can we be expecting from you in the coming months?
Schodt- i have a remix coming up on Proton Particles, of Cassino & Labens track "Come Back to Mar Del Plata" which will be out this month. Also next month I will have a new EP out on "Cool Vibes Recordings" with the two tracks "Octagon" and "Twisty Things", the follow up to my "Tokyo Dawn EP" which I really look forward to.
Katie Tiae - Can you leave us with the best quote you have ever heard?
Schodt- Definitely "Life is what happens to you, while you are busy making other plans" by John Lennon - I try to remember that quote as often as I can :)
Thankyou mate! Have an awesome day & keep up the great work! from Katie Tiae & the Nocturnal Family!

Way Out West - Surrender (original mix) [Hope Recordings]
True artists don't follow trends, they reinterpret them to fit their vision - staying true to who they are yet staying current with the modern groove. With club anthems like "Mindcircus," "Ajare," and "The Gift," Way Out West, the duo of Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff have definitely had their effect on the cannon of progressive house music. While many producers/artists are making what sound like 80s records with a minor update, WOW chooses to incorporate 80s sounding keyboards while retaining their sound. While we love Omi and hope that she has a few tracks on their forthcoming CD We Love Machine, we also appreciate quality male vocalists on club tracks such as the Apollo approved Jonathan Mendelsohn who sings "Only Love." - DJ Ron Slomowicz
Timo Garcia ft. Amber Jolene - Wonderlust (Free Your Mind) (James Harcourt remix) [Berwick Street]
Under the alias Timo Garcia, he joins the dots of our planet’s clubbing hotspots. Rocking crowds across Brazil, at London’s Ministry of Sound, around Russia, at all of Ibiza’s sharpest clubs and more: he is a global DJ. Whether spinning his own razor edged house productions, or mixing the tech and electro of others, he weaves sets stuffed with sonics from all over. But seeing and hearing the world in this way has uniquely improved the arsenal of sounds at his disposal as a DJ, and poignantly inform his productions. Be they glitched-out, guitar led or Hang Drum peppered, a Timo Garcia track is always on point.
Steve Haines ft. Marcus Pearson - Beautiful Found (Vincent Vega remix) [Open Bar Music]
Steve’s versatility and open minded approach to electronic dance music never fails to impress a crowd. He has gained recognition around the UK with residencies and guest sets at nights/venues including Godskitchen, Cream and Pukka Up. Steve has also made appearances at The Cross, Pacha and Heaven in London. The past two years have seen him play alongside the likes of Seb Fontaine, Micheal Gray, Deepgroove, Kim Fai and Jason Herd plus many more.
Noferini & Marini vs. Sylvia Tosun - Push n Pull (original mix) [Deeperfect Records]
From the fearless abandon of the world-class dance floor to the strict discipline required to study voice at Juilliard, Sylvia Tosun is an enigma of the millennial pop pantheon. The singer/songwriter has scored success as a hitmaker, record label proprietor, live performer and interpreter of more than a half-dozen languages—as well as fashionista and dedicated volunteer of global causes.
Trim The Fat - Me & My Shadow (original mix) [Type Six Recordings]
Trim The Fat is UK dance music producer and DJ also known as Nicky Howard. Hailing from Beverley Yorkshire his eclectic taste and forward thinking attitude have helped develop a unique style that draws aspects from a broad spectrum of musical inspiration. His extensive production work, DJ mixes and gigs have helped established him as one of the fastest rising stars within the dance music community.
Pole Folder - Hollow (Robert Babicz Rings remix) [La Tour]
“In a time where some artists focus on jumping on the new sound or trying to conform to an image, Pole Folder reminds us that in the end its all about the music, and his productions have remained at the forefront of the musically rich.” (Resident Advisor) Pole Folder, aka Benoit Franquet, has emerged as an intrinsic part of the emotive dance music juggernaut that has been steadily powering through club land over the course of the last few years… Alongside DJs such as Guy Gerber, James Holden and Guy J, he has been at the helm of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which House music is based.
Phonique & Erlend Oye - For The Time Being (Neil Quigley remix) [Renaissance]
You see it everywhere. From Facebook to Myspace, there are a thousand wannabe DJs with pages proclaiming that they are the next big thing. With impressive looking schedules and countless friends, these self publicists almost have us fooled. But peel back the layers of those would be Emperors new clothes, and you start to realise that in this world dominated by style over substance, talent is now nothing more than the ability to keep up with the latest trends in fashion. Neil Quigley has talent – in abundance, but more importantly in the traditional sense as well. As a DJ he can build a set that is laced with the uplifting, joyous moments we have all shared in the past, whilst still delivering the sounds we demand from our future. Not one to be swayed by today’s flash in the pan, Neil has crafted a sound, something he refers to as ‘Electronic House with Soul’, that has made a number of important people stand up and take notice. The first real big name to make a telling difference was John Digweed, who invited Neil to open for him at his world famous Bedrock parties. The opportunity, born from Digweed naming Neil as his one to watch in the last two DJ Mag top 100 polls, has allowed him to take centre stage in venues such as Fabric, Warung Beach Club and the Ministry Of Sound. It doesn’t just stop with Bedrock. Neil is now also part of the Renaissance stable of DJs, headlining nights in the UK and on the global stage as well. Around about the same time, Urbantorque records – a favourite of Neil’s from the early releases that appeared on Deep Dish’s Yoshiesque album – offered Neil the opportunity to source new music for the label. Not only was his talent as a DJ being respected by one of the very best in the world, a successful label was now offering him the chance to mould the way their sound would grow over time.
Little Boots - Earthquake (Dekker & Johan remix) [679]
Dekker has been one of the London club circuit’s best kept secrets for almost a decade, playing regular sets at Fabric since it opened, and most of the rest at some point, honing his style originally on hip hop, bashment and (proper) electro. But it was in 2007 that Dekker really broke through, and the upward trajectory shows no signs of slowing. His style has evolved to combine the quick–cutting of his hip hop roots with straight up dance music. His sets are made up of impatient mixes, b-lines, the freshest electronic beats, elements of disco, acid & techno, his own productions and exclusive edits and the odd classic, depending on the floor.

Editors - Papillon (Japanese Popstars remix) [Kitchenware Records]
The Japanese Popstars are riding a wave of great live gigs, major festival bookings, and media praise off the back of thier amazing energy driven live shows and their critically acclaimed debut album 'We Just Are'. However, let's get one thing straight about the music - The Japanese Popstars aren't indie rave, or any other sub-sub-sub genre, theirs is big room, cool as f**k electronic music built for festivals and stadiums. They're not dance kids aping indie kids, nor are they indie kids dropping synths and calling themselves 'ravers'. The Japanese Popstars - back to the future dance music for today, tomorrow, and forever, and it's coming to a field near you very soon.

Odissi - Empty Vodka Bottles (original mix) [Lot49]
In the male dominated electronic music industry very few ladies hold both the studio and performance skills required to break gender stereotypes and gain the respect of their peers. Odissi however, is one of the rare exceptions. While her shameless escapades in the world of erotica, double life as a "pin up model" and love for sky high stilettos may be enough to raise a few eyebrows, this saucy songstress comes armed with a punk rock "love me or get f*cked attitude" and an unhealthy obsession for the technical aspect of making music that makes her a force to be reckoned with in this cut throat game. Her quirky production style and signature trashy vocals have earned her a string of releases on some of the UK’s most prestigious breakbeat/dance labels. The journey for miss Odissi started in the same manner almost every career in dance music does... behind the decks. Fake ID in hand from the tender age of 16 she held a busy gig schedule playing DnB and Breakbeat across her native country of America in clubs which she was not even legally old enough to be in! In 2004 with her first vinyl signing and the support of Cyberfunk Recordings, Odissi became one of the select few American breakbeat DJs to take their DJ career to an international level with gigs in Spain and across the UK where she now currently resides.
