Michael Woods Artist Profile

Real Name: Michael Woods
Profile:

Michael Woods is an artist that has been amongst music his whole entire life, even his first memory is that of sitting at a piano and he was practicing every day from the age of 3. Classically trained at Pimlico’s Trinity College of Music and ahe could be found in the school music rooms at lunch, where, like coveted treasure, lay an ancient Apple Mac and Korg M1 upon which Michael would blast out warped electronic odysseys.
Even at weekends his talent was exploited in percussion for the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall It didn’t stop there, next it was the trumpet, then guitar, followed by drums as Michael extended his musical knowledge.

This knowledge and talent built momentum for Michael’s music. First up there was the globally acclaimed remix of Energy 52’s Café Del Mar. Then there were tracks such as Dropzone and the more recent Yemba. More recently we have seen Michael deliver club smashing remixes of deadmau5 – Strobe and Chris Lake & deadmau5 – I Said. All music has received consistent backing from Pete Tong and other key radio DJ’s.

Michael is an artist that has seen many years of the industry, he has produced under many alter egos some of which have given him great chart success and made serious waves on the Buzz and Cool Cut charts.
He has remixed Grammy-award nominee Adele, Xenomania signing Gabriella Cilmi and MOBO-winner Nate James. However, since launching new label Diffused Music in September ‘08, priorities have become his own productions and pushing his label.

Michael spends most of his time based in his studio in London exploring his creativity and becoming more confident with his sound. Needless to say music is Michaels priority in 2010 as he pushes to deliver great sounds via the diffused label and influential releases with other artistes.

Exclusive Michael Woods Interview

Katie Tiae - Hello! thankyou for joining us in the nocturnal hot seat! What's been on your agenda this morning so far?
Michael Woods - Hi Katie. So far I've had 2 pizzas for breakfast and now its time to take the dog for a walk.

Katie Tiae - You have recently collabertaed with Mr Chris Lake for your track 'Dominos' Did I hear correctly that the name of the track was after the pizza place 'Dominos' haha please explain?
Michael Woods - Chris came round my house to watch some Sky tv as his favorite team Norwich FC were playing. As his team were losing we decided to work on a track in my studio instead. We weren't really coming up with anything special so decided to take a break over a couple of domino's pizzas. Strangely enough once we finished the pizzas the ideas just kept on coming - so we decided to name the track after domino's!

Katie Tiae - Do you have any other funny stories of your adventures with Chris Lake and your music making?
Michael Woods - When Chris first came round we were really awkward around each other and there was a very uncomfortable silence. So i suggested we take all our clothes off and continue the studio session completely naked. It definitely broke the silence and in my opinion worked a treat.

Katie Tiae - You have worked along side a few different artists throughout the time. Which other artists are you wanting to collaberate with and why?
Michael Woods - I'd love to work with Alicia Keys because she is an amazing singer/song-writer and in terms of production I'd love to get on a collaboration with Deadmau5 - I've heard he's a wizard in the studio and works at light-breaking speed!

Katie Tiae - Social networking sites are a massive outlet this minute, You have twitter and what not? what are your thoughts (pros & cons) to owning an account yourself?
Michael Woods - I don't mind it - it can tend to bog you down slightly with the vast amounts of demos I get sent but to be honest I can't imagine life without those kind of sites now.

Katie Tiae - Have you had strange people add you with marriage proposals?
Michael Woods - I've have had the odd flirtatious message from some of my fans but can't say I've had a marriage proposal...yet haha!

Katie Tiae - Tell us three things about yourself and your talents that our listeners may not know about you?
Michael Woods -  I have perfect AND absolute pitch, which can come in quite handy.I can play the piano with both my hands AND my feet!  and I was once selected to be in the London Symphony Orchestra for my amazing talents on the TRIANGLE!

Katie Tiae - Your sounds have definatly changed over the years from trance to house to some really techy vibes, what have been your influences as the times change?
Michael Woods - My influences always come from being out in the clubs and seeing what works and what gets the best reactions. Some of my best productions come the day after spending a heavy night in a top club playing amazing tunes.

Katie Tiae - In the coming months where will we be hearing you smash out some tunes?
Micheal Woods - I've got 3 dates at the Brixton Academy with Deadmau5 30th April, 1st & 2nd May, I'm also at Ministry of Sound in London 20th March with Pete Tong, Digital in Newcastle with Mark Knight 19th March and Kelly's in Portrush N. Ireland 27th March. Check www.michaelwoods.co.uk for other dates or follow me on www.twitter.com/michael_woods or facebook on http://www.facebook.com/michaelwoodsonline

Katie Tiae - Last but not least can you leave us with the best quote you always follow?
Michael Woods -  Dont eat yellow snow!

Thankyou for joining us in the quick chat hot seat! Have a brilliant day from Katie Tiae & the Nocturnal Family

Freemasons vs. Dubfire - Uninvited Charlotte (Stereo Palma mashup)
Freemasons are infamously named after the Brighton pub quite near to the studio where the duo started productions nearly 3 years ago. They first came to clubland’s’ attention with the much loved, Jackie Moore sampling - "Love On My Mind" which quickly made the quantum leap from UK Dancefloors, into the charts and the Freemasons were off to a running start. A second top 20 hit “Watchin” also featuring the extremely talented Amanda Wilson cemented their name with clubbers and industry alike and as the remixes started to flood in, it soon became apparent to everyone that the Freemasons were definitely much more than a one trick pony.

Norman Doray vs. ATB - Let U Go Tobita (Stereo Palma mashup)
It seems hard to believe, but a decade has passed since ATB made waves with his “Movin Melodies“ album. 10 years in which André Tanneberger travelled the globe over and over, mesmerizing his fans all over the world with his unique DJ sets. A decade in which ATB presented eight albums – including the newest ATB LP “Future Memories“, set for May release – to lighten up our days and nights with exquisite electronic music, melodic yet pulsating. “In contrast to my DJ sets, where I use a lot of material by other artists, ATB In Concert is all about my own songs “ André explains. “This is my way of offering the fans who have stuck with me over the last ten years a dedicated ATB live show from start to finish.“ Seven such concerts are scheduled for 2009. „Future Memories“ also includes a new version of André Tanneberger’s worldwide hit “9 P.M. – Till I Come“. Not in any way a sign of commercial sell-out, much more a consequence of ATB having played the track at almost every gig in the past ten years. “9 P.M. was a must for my fans. They expected, even demanded it – and I was happy to oblige“ he says. He always endeavoured to play mixes of the song which no other DJ had. “I now wanted to have a new version of 9 P.M. to play in my sets, which nobody else could play. I didn’t expect the reaction of the fans at the gigs to be so overwhelming. Which is why I have added a mix of the new version as a bonus on “Future Memories“ – as a way of saying thank you to the fans.“

D-Nox & Beckers - You're A Star (original mix) [Baroque Records]
This guy is German. He really is, trust me! Looking at his tour calendar, you wouldn..t know it. Because D-Nox spends more time abroad, captivating huge crowds worldwide with his genre defying sets between Techno, Electro and Progressive House, than in his motherland. About 95 percent of the time he is busy somewhere between Mexico, Israel, China, Australia, Russia, Japan or God knows where. Often playing in front of 20,000 and more party-goons at the most renowned venues. Has this man forgotten about his roots, neglected his heritage? Certainly not, but D-Nox is simply one of the top Export-Acts of his own country. How did this come about, you might ponder? Well, let me tell you... This more than eager youngster already started spinning 12inches way back in the days, 1992 to be precise. He was instantly consumed by the first wave of Techno-Music that hit Germany at the time. Within a couple of years D-Nox had landed residencies at some of the elite clubs of his region; The Poison Club 1994-96, Ratinger Hof 1995-97, Area Code 1996-2000 and Evosonic Radio 1997-99. Basically never being out of a residency job for more than a few months. Of course simultaneously stirring up numerous top notch clubs such as the Tresor, Tribehouse, Ultraschall and the Aufschwung Ost. His intimate interplay between the electrified audience and himself is the reason for his immense popularity as a deejay. Preferably long sets with countless ups and downs are his trademark, toying with the hungry crowd for several hours, before finally dropping the party-bomb on them.
