Hybrid Artist Profile

Real Name: Chris Healings, Mike Truman, & Charlotte James
Profile:

Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Blurring the line between in-studio production and live presentation, Hybrid are one of the few remaining dance acts to perform live with a classic band setup.

Though, much has changed on the road to Hybrid's fourth artist album Disappear Here. Most notable is the addition of Hybrid's third member - singer/ songwriter Charlotte James - to go along with founders Chris Healings and Mike Truman.

Charlotte's impact is marked as Disappear Here is truly an album of real songs and not merely dance beats with vocals on top. It offers a lot more than anything Hybrid has ever previously written and pushes boundaries in every way.
With Disappear Here, Hybrid have managed to create an epic and unique sound which has progressed dramatically from its original dance inception but still retains much of what makes electronic music so exciting. The album features guest vocals from Tim Hutton, drums from Alex Madge and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Break My Soul LP Released!

The first single from Hybrid’s new LP Disappear Here is available to buy today from all good online retailers. The release features the original mix and an instrumental, along with two very special remixes from Hybrid themselves. This announces the beginning of a series of remixes from the album and is a grand return to the club sound they have been away from during the recording of the LP.

Mark Sinclair - Pictures Of You (original extended mix) [High Contrast Nubreed]
Legendary trance dj and producer. instrumental in the promotion of trance music world wide. promoter of the legendary Pendragon parties and London organiser of the world famous earth dance international party in aid of the tibetan cause.and very shiny eyed bitch indeed!!!!] DJ Mark Sinclair Mark Sinclair’s Dj career began in Swansea (south Wales) as the lead singer of a post punk rock band. Having always been musically orientated, he began Djing 22 years ago. Throughout that course Mark has played almost every genre of dance music. Having played such a huge part in pushing the music, he decided to write and produce his own. Mark’s tunes have been released on several record labels, which lead him to create a label of his own, Pendragon records, now on their fifth release. (See discography) Mark has headlined at some huge events around the world. Regularly playing to massive crowds of 10.000 in Brazil, 2000 in Holland, and even at his own events in London, where Pendragon regularly sold out the 4.500 capacity Brixton Academy venue, as well as monthly 2000 crowds at the legendary Tyssen Street Studios and the fridge night club in Brixton. With all of this in toe, it must be said that Mark Sinclair has been fundamental in the creation of the techno trance sound we hear today.

BT - Suddenly (Cicada mix) [Black Hole Recordings]
Cicada began life as London club-heads Alex Payne and Aaron Gilbert’s successful production team, remixing Depeche Mode, New Order and many others, but they wanted more, they wanted to return to the band ethic and build a project that reflected their love of rock and pop as well as dance. “Pop isn’t a dirty word,” they reckon, “From Saint Etienne to Santogold, it’s possible to do it credibly, we’re not techno DJs from Berlin, we’re just trying to make an album that, if someone finds it on their shelf and plays it in five years time, they can still enjoy the songs.”

Matt Darey pres. Urban Astronauts ft. Kristy Thirsk - Black Flowers (Josh Gabriel remix) [Nocturnal Global]
Dimitri: There is no prog trance dj in the earth that hasn’t supported the so beautiful and highly successful “See the Sun”  by Urban Astronauts. Both the Aurosonic and Moonbeam mixes were played constantly by the big players and got many licenses to various compilations all over the globe. The return of this rock meets dance Matt Darey project is ready to explode once again with the aid of the sensitive vocals by Kristy  Thirsk on the dark and mysterious Black Flowers. The lyrics are inspiring and work as a warning about the current situation in the world. From the lies in peoples relation to the environmental pollution and the disaster of the nature day by day  in some years children  will play in a world of black flowers and then will be extremely difficult to correct all our mistakes and learn from them. The remix package includes some fantastic remixes and in my hand to review I have four of them. The always-reliable Chinese producer Yuan offers a prog house meets interpretation with an optimistic feel to it and with enough room for the vocal to stand out. Incognet version is my favorite as it is so driving, full of great sounds and exceptional use of the vocals along with opera moments too that is very popular in trance tracks. Chris Domingo mix is the tech/electro house mix that is dubby with minimal use of the vocal perfect for vocal haters. Finally, the lounge/chill out audience is catered on the onyric  Aeron Aesther remix where the manic breaks, the melodies and the Kristy vocals become ONE. Quality wins big time once again.

Robert Babicz - Dark Flower (Fewer mix) [Systematic Recordings]
In the last few years there has been a proliferation in the amount of people producing really good techno, acid, minimal and everything in between. The majority of these producers are new,but Robert Babicz (aka Rob Acid) is an example of an older producer that has managed to stay relevant by reinventing his sound (to some extent). Many of his new tracks have that trademark acid sound, but what we are listening to is most definitely acid for the 21st century. This man is not stuck in the 1990s, him and his machinedrum are moving with the times. The last year or two have seen a series of quality releases for Babicz on labels like Punkt, Treibstoff and K2, making him a producer to keep an eye on.

Way Out West - Surrender (Henry Saiz remix) [Hope Recordings]
Henry Saiz is fast becoming one of dance music’s brightest properties. From his two-track inclusion on Digweed’s critically acclaimed Transitions 4, his previous EP on Renaissance – Artificial Paradises, or the lauded remixes of Guy J’s Lamur, his star has been in constant ascent. Now the trajectory continues as he delivers a stunning three track EP, Madre Noche. Whilst all of the tunes feature the meticulous, trademark Saiz production, each have their own distinct style. Title track Madre Noche, from which the EP takes its name, features an infectious, chunky bass line juxtaposed against a haunting pad; Rhinemaidens a killer arpegiated foundation that queues up one of the most infectious riffs you’re ever likely to hear, whilst Hadal takes a pinch of acid and a twisted top line and blends them all into an emotive collage as it builds toward a fitting finale.

Adam K & Soha - Beyond The Horizon (original mix) [Hotbox Digital]
As a young guy, Adam dealt with life’s twists & turns by channeling his energy into music. It started with playing drums and collecting music but life came to him once he got into the studio. Listening, watching and learning all led to the development of his skills. Adam taught himself how to make music. An empathic relationship in production and harmonics made this sound unique. Experimenting with a variety of programs, synths, VSTs and DAWS Adam became a guru of arranging, composing and mastering. Friends and allies along the way helped propel Adam towards the heavier, groovier nature of electronic music. Superstar Mark Oliver, resident DJ of uber club Guvernment, showed Adam a path that brought out new attentions to certain styles. Adam’s chameleonic format changed and soon hits like ‘40,000 yrs. of funk’ electrified music buyers. Companion and Comrade Soha opened the door that gave the jazziest feel to the beat. Alongisde this musical wizard Adam K. would produce songs that rule dance floors around the world. Song after song, remix after remix Adam K. fills dance floor with delight. From the sternest underground aficionado to the carefree clubber no one can resist the sounds of Adam k.

Tritonal - Utopia (Arty remix) [Enhanced Recordings]
Tritonal consists of two DJ's at the forefront of trance music production and live sets. Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed produce cutting edge performances that trigger your emotions to dance and rival the best in music today. In the studio, their extensive sessions are filled with boundless creativity and an unrivaled passion for producing new sounds and slamming tracks. The two met online while discussing sound design and production techniques. They quickly developed a relationship and came to realize that together they could achieve much greater things. At the time, Chad was busy in Austin, TX remixing for some of the world's most prolific labels such as Armada, Lost Language, Baroque, AVA Recordings, Alter Ego, and Pangea. Dave, on the other hand, was busy in the D.C. area producing his own artist album. Recognizing that their sounds complemented one another perfectly, fusing driving progressive rhythms with emotional, uplifting trance elements, Dave decided to make a commitment and move 1,500 miles across the U.S. so that they could work together daily. Something special was emerging that was bigger than either had previously experienced. Within the first 6 months of working together, Tritonal had 15 originals and a handful of remixes under their belt. As of late, Tritonal has licensed tracks with the biggest labels in trance music, including Anjunabeats, Flashover, Armada, Lost Language, AVA, Coldharbour and many others. They are truly one of the most exciting duos in today's trance music scene. Look for big things from these two guys in the years to come!
