Moguai Artist Profile

Real Names: André Tegeler
Profile:

Miami, Montevideo, Melbourne, Mailand ..... and Marl.
Marl, the northernmost town of Germany's Ruhr area, which may not be a household name to you, but it fits perfectly in our story, which also begins with the letter M.

M for music and M for Moguai, the star performer of our tale.

He has been a leading figure in the electronic music scene for more than a decade, setting new standards in production, as so many music lovers have had the pleasure of witnessing. His DJ sets are no less remarkable, surround sound experiences for countless clubbers. So why are we casting a glance back to the apparently unremarkable place where it all began? Because this is the starting point for Moguai the artist's continuing journey across the globe. Welcome to the kinetic highway.

Put it another way: there are more ways than one from A to B. Sometimes the road leads via X and P... or possibly M.
M for Marl it is then, a fantastic point of departure in the late 80s and early 90s in terms of musical activity and the world at large. Punk and skater hardcore dominated the scene, with techno and electro storms gathering momentum even before the Berlin Wall fell. Here in the Ruhr area, Moguai tapped into the energy streaming through the region and got closer to the music. The road from Marl to Dusseldorf is a short one, the latter having already left its mark on the musical map some years before when Kraftwerk drew up the blueprint for a whole cosmos of electronic sounds.

Moguai was inspired by the spherical, experimental sounds emanating from the Rhine metropolis and, at the same time, found his way as a DJ into the rave scene of the Ruhr and beyond. This was the era of vast warehouse gatherings with gigantic sound systems turned up to the max. The shockwaves were so severe, that traces of them can still be felt and heard today. At the epicentre: Moguai. His sound, however, does more than just shake and disturb...the Moguai sound is different. Let's add another M word to the collection - Magical! Even in the early years, with the bass and the beats banging all over the place, Moguai was creating distinct patterns and soundscapes, inviting those listening and dancing into the exclusive aural experience of the man behind the decks.

It is a method which Moguai employs to this day. Key moments in the formative years still echo in the Moguai biography today. The partnership with Phil Fuldner and the chart hits that followed. Regular bookings in the finest venues all around the world. Artist awards and nominations' and his very own radio show on Germany's biggest radio station......1Live!

Punx, the in-house label, has become the creative living room for the multi-talented artist known as Moguai. Rather than sign up a series of hired hands, Moguai has entrusted the label to his close circle of friends, preparing together with them the next steps of a flourishing career. He could have done it all differently - there have been successes along the way which would have tempted others to jump ship, go for broke on one big roll of the dice. Moguai has always preferred to plan his next move carefully, and, by staying true to this maxim, can look back .. to two decades at the top. He has done it on his own terms and is totally in control of his own destiny, his vision of music still intact. Other artists may well envy his dexterity in keeping his roots connected to the real world. M for masterful, maybe?

Matt Darey & Aeron Aether ft. Ridgewalkers - Chasing The Sun (Schodt remix) [Nocturnal Global]
Aeron Aether (Gábor Kovács) is a Hungarian composer, producer and a “researcher-experimentalist” of electronic sound. :) Besides studying electrical engineering, he dedicated his whole life to composing and listening music, which he lives and breathes. Unfortunately he studied music for only a few years, where he learned the tricks of playing cello, but what really impressed him were the synthesizers, realizing he could achieve stunning extraterrestrial sounds with this instrument.

Something Good - Solence (original mix) [Nellie Recordings]
Solence is the perfect set opener anyone can ever ask for! With its soulful and enlightening saxophone melodies and with the help of the rejuvenating piano samples, Solence brings heaven just right next door! Something Good follows up that feel-good vibe with their vanilla-bleached piece, 1:28 AM. Brought together by crisp synth-work and sedative atmosphere, this track effortlessly brings the good vibes together. The ever-glorious and the very captivating Cielo completes the experience! Bringing the EP to a close, Cielo, and its gracious piano climax would simply leave you wanting more. From Helsinki with solace, Something Good continues to live up to their name as heard in this enchanting release.

According to the annual Internet survey poll at portals DJ.RU and MUZZONE.RU, in 2007, 2008 and 2009, he became among the Top 100 best DJ’s of the Russian Federation. Dinka - Aircarft (original mix) [Anjunadeep]
Dinka aka Chris Reece - Both guys have years of musical involvement to back them up on the way. Christian always knew he wanted to pay the rent with music and started toying around with computers to find himself able to produce a track, from start to end, at the age of 13. As time passed and the scene went through a metamorphoses of styles, Christian didn’t only set up his own studio but also clocked up more than 70 weeks in the Swiss single chart, together with partner in crime Franky Fonell. After 10 years of partnership, Christian headed for the Chris Reece direction: one towards a more underground, tribal and progressive house sound. Christian:”My today’s sound is a mixture of modern house music, mixed with 80’s and trance influences.” That same sound can be heard in Roberto’s DJ sets. Roberto Pagliaro is the man with the clubbing spirit and sense of what gets the floors trembling and the global dance crowds move. Over the years, he’s made hearts pound faster – to the rhythm of his Rob Lemon productions, remixes and DJ sets. To guarantee the Chris Reece quality, in both clubs and studio, is kept high at all times, the guys decided to divide the work and each focus on their own part. Like a two-piece puzzle, Roberto and Christian bind their strengths into one strong whole: Chris Reece.

King Britt ft. Astrid Suryanto - Now (Sharam Crazi remix) [Yoshitoshi Recordings]
Well, bios are funny because they tell the story of the past of who you are in the present. I try to only live in the present and the future (as I said, try). Even though beginning my career in 1990 on the now legendary house label Strictly Rhythm as E- Culture, being Silkworm in the groundbreaking, Grammy winning Digable Planets, starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, producing platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and hundreds of others, winning the highest grant in the country as the first dj/producer, The Pew Fellowship or starting my empire, FiveSixMedia, I still try to live in the NOW and not the then.  So of course, now, I am a father, fiance', musicologist of sorts and media revolutionary. My label and company FiveSixMedia, set the example of an individual who is able to live outside the box and show what freedom truly is. Doing my own thing on my own time and assisting other to move into that space as well. The future is bright because I say it is. Stop and smell the flowers.
