Kid Massive Artist Profile

Real Names: Benjamin Pedersen
Profile:

Style: House

Favourite DJ: Too many to mention!

Favourite Producer: Again, too many too mention!

Favourite label: My own - Justax Records, Justsoul Records, Sondslike Records

Favourite ever record: Anything by me (He he he he he, just kidding!) - too many good tunes to mention

Favourite ever album: Anything by Sade

What are you up to right now: Working on the next single for my Justsoul label, doing this interview!

Your inspiration: Anything with Soul and Funk, its got to be funky for it to move me!

What would you change right now: Too much work, need to get out more!

Favourite venue to play: The Mission, Leeds

Best ever gig: Versuz, Belgium

Your system set up: 3 CDJs, Pioneer mixer

What advice would you give to anyone getting into the industry today:
Always be true to who you are, never make music or start DJing because it is the latest thing...playing, producing, whatever...just do what you feel is right for you.  In other words, JUST KEEP IT REAL!  People can smell bandwagon jumpers a mile away...and I know a few!

What is your view on the current situation in the industry, and where do you see it going:
I think the industry is strong right now, with labels not afraid to use it, embrace it, vinyl is picking up again, which is great.  The music has become more funky now, with more melodies and warmth compared to two or three years ago.  Things are looking good, I'm optimistic!

Anything else we should know about you:
I run three labels, live in Paris, have a cat named Figaro, grew up in London, lived in Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, never drink when I'm DJing (honest!), my girlfriend is a DJ, love music, love my mac, I use Logic, I do all my label artwork, released three full length albums - MALOU, GEEZA, AUTOSOUL -  and am part of Rhythm
Slaves.

Suspect 44 - Hold Me (original mix) [Songbird]

Suspect 44 is a new name on the Songbird imprint and their singles will be a fantastic surprise for all the DJs out there! Their debut track, "Hold Me" is a trademark Balearic track and contains a lot of classic references to the Italo sound from back in the days. The laid back BPM make it perfect for a late afternoon club set near the pool and the arpeggio synth line that carries the track will most certainly create a superb party atmosphere. It remains a secret who did the vocals, but the dreamy chanting of the chorus adds that little bit of extra to the entire song. Nick Stoynoff accepted the remix assignment and gave the original version a let's say Mediterranean overhaul, in doing so delivering a perfect version for a huge club party. "Hold Me" by Suspect 44, in one word terrific! '

Janelle Monae - Tightrope (Robbie Rivera's Juicy Bigroom dub) [Juicy Music]
Growing up in Puerto Rico, Robbie Rivera's successful career spinning house music got off to a rocky start. A fan of the freestyle and Eurobeat that was being imported to the island, Rivera bought two turntables in hopes of learning to DJ. Problem was the turntables didn't have a pitch control, a feature DJs require to blend records. Learning the hard way and teaching himself how to DJ, Rivera got the usual weddings and school party gigs that mobile DJs start off with, but a natural talent for working the crowd had him playing the big clubs by the age of 16. After high school the DJ went to the Art Institute at Fort Lauderdale to study music production and was introduced to many different digital audio tools including the popular Protools program. He was still in college when his first record came out, "Sorulla," a track influenced by the Latin house sound of early C+C Music Factory. The track became popular in New York and Miami and his career was underway. In 2000, Rivera's track "Bang" became a huge hit, making it to number one of the U.K. dance charts. Rivera started his own label, Juicy, and recorded mix CDs for Max Music, Filtered, and others. Widespread exposure to Rivera's deep sound brought him work remixing the likes of Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Moloko, and Sarah Brightman. In 2003, SFP released a collection of Rivera's productions, Wicked. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
