| Exclusive Thomas Gold Interview |
Mr Thomas Gold will now answer your questions
My name is Thomas Gold
My friends call me Tom
My Birthdate is 1-11-XX
I consider Berlin my home base
I’d love to work with David Tort (again) in the future.
The next place I’d love to travel is Tokyo
The first album I ever bought was Michael Jackson's "Thriller"
My current favorite style of Electronic Music is Tech House/House
If I weren’t a producer/DJ I would be very sad
The last song i listened to on repeat was the drum loop of my next single
I wish I could stop driving too fast and getting all these tickets, but I can’t help it!
My most memorable party moment was Guadalajara in Mexico seeing 6000 people freaking out when I played my upcoming single ‘What´s Up'
I’m deathly afraid of hearing loss
I use Logic 9 and lots of other stuff to create my music.
When I party, I usually have quite a hangover the next day
The original Chicago house sound inspired me to become a producer/DJ
In 5 years I would like to still have lots of fun producing & DJing!
I’ve always wanted to see the arctic, but haven’t gotten the chance to yet
You’d be shocked to find out that I have never ... what are people really shocked about these days
I don’t leave home without my Iphone.
So You’ve mentioned in previous interviews you lost your first residency gig at a club after 2 nights because you were bad. Tell those aspiring DJs about your story of falling and getting back up.
This was because I really had no experience at all..bit strange though that the club owner let me play…and it was NYD, so people still had a big hangover from NYE. It didn´t discourage me, the opposite was the case. I was highly motivated to practiced a lot, to learn it from the beginning and just to do it better in the future.
So After that unfortunate incident, you later on went on to further develop yourself. How did you go about doing that? And how did you get that second chance?
I bought 2 turntables and a mixer and practiced at home with my own gear. After some practicing I did a DJ demo mix and sent it to a club owner of my fav club in town. He called me couple of days later and offered me the Friday night to play and it worked out!
So since you've become a professional, you´ve done quite a lot remixes you´re now doing more your own tracks. How come?
Yeah, I just want to focus more on my own ideas of music. Having more flexibility and freedom of what I´m doing, to self-actualise. It´s very exciting to start a track totally from the scratch and see how your baby develops! I´ve got quite a few upcoming or recently released tracks which are all “Thomas Gold style” but although different from each other. So I have the opportunity to really express myself in different ways. For example the Toolroom EP “Kananga / Work That” I did is more techy / techhouse and my new coop single with Fatboy Slim ‘Star69’ is more bigroom house style I would say. My next single which will be a Thomas Gold & Alex Kenji ‘What´s Up’ is somewhat in between both styles. So I´m able to do my fav kind of music styles without limitation
One of your biggest hit remixes was of “Silence” in 2008. So many artists have mashed up, remixed, sampled this anthem, how did you and Niels Van Gogh approach this mega track?
Actually we didn´t think too much about it. We had some little ideas when we started and we just did what came into our minds.
So besides your own which remix is your favorite?
My favourite mix besides my own is still Tiesto´s!
So why do you feel that Electronic Music Fans never get tired of this track?
The vocals are incredibly nice, so emotional and perfect – that´s the reason you can listen to it over & over without getting tired.
We heard you really enjoy pop, soul, and 70’s music as well. Give us your current top 5 non House Music artists. ?
Prodigy
Linkin Park
Chemical Brothers
Nickelback
and Berlin based artist “Peter Fox”

Inspired by the vitality of the nightlife and his passion for music, he quickly immersed himself into the house scene of his adoptive city. Little by little, his interest for structures irrepressibly shifted from engineering to music. Following his graduation from university in the summer of 2001, and in the wake of his DJ success as resident at the internationally renowned Stereo and Sona after hours, Sultan created his own studio in order to unleash his talent as a producer. Once again, the results were tremendous. His first-ever production, "Primal Instinct” was signed to Chug Records that same year and garnered much appraise. All these influences are mixed up in their sets with the special add of their sounds done with the legendary MPC sampler.
Goldfrapp - Believer (Joris Voorn remix) [Mute]
Bath, England's singer/composer/keyboardist Allison Goldfrapp began exploring music as part of her studies as a fine art painting major at Middlesex University, mixing sound, visuals, and performances in her installation pieces. While she was still in college, she appeared on her friend Tricky's 1995 debut, Maxinquaye, which led to appearances on albums from other cutting-edge electronic artists, including Orbital's Snivilisation and Add N to X's Avant Hard. By the late '90s, Goldfrapp began honing her own compositions; one of her friends passed some of her demos on to composer Will Gregory. Finding much in common in their musical tastes and approaches, the duo took Allison's surname as the name for their collaboration.
